What is HiX?
HiX is the electronic patient record of Erasmus MC. During your internships or master’s research, it may be necessary to have access to HiX. HiX authorisation is only requested from Education & Student Affairs for students doing their internship or master’s research within Erasmus MC. Authorisations not related to an internship or master’s research must be arranged through the relevant department.
Signing the HiX agreement
To gain access to HiX you need a position within Erasmus MC as a clinical clerk or master’s research student. You must sign an agreement at the start of the Internal Medicine or Research Methods classes. You will receive an invitation from Education & Student Affairs for signing. This invitation is sent about two weeks before the start of classes.
How can I find out my micro-section number?
If you are already working (or have worked) within Erasmus MC you keep the same micro-section number. The position or rights will then be added. You can view your micro-section number via Osiris Student. After logging in, click on your photo at the top right. Then choose 'My Details' and click through to the 'Additional Info' tab.
HiX access
HiX rights are only activated when you actually start your internships or master’s research. You will have access from the first day of your internships until the last day. Not before and not after.
Are you already working as a medical student at the EMC? Then you probably already have the correct rights. Go to HiX and change your settings with the gear icon at the top left or view the e-learning.
As a clinical clerk/master's researcher, you have the responsibility to handle HiX acces rights with integrity. You are only permitted to view patient records that are necessary for the performance of your duties. Additionally, it is mandatory to complete the e-learning module on information security and data protection. You can find it here.
HiX e-learning
Are you working with HiX for the first time? The strong advice is to first complete the e-learning. The e-learning has been available since 1 September 2023 in Eduplaza. Information about Eduplaza can be found via the Eduplaza service portal, such as the Eduplaza manual.
Completing the e-learning is no longer mandatory, the responsibility for having sufficient knowledge of HiX lies with you and your supervisor.
If you have questions about the e-learning, check intranet under 'New employees HiX' or contact hix.training@erasmusmc.nl.
Logging in to HiX
You can now log in to HiX with the login group when you are working as a clinical clerk (note! This does not apply to a Senior Clerkship!). When you have started HiX, select the login group of the internship in the 'role' field. This is, for example, COINT (clinical clerk Internal Medicine) as shown in the example below.
When you are not working as a clinical clerk, you can log in to HiX and leave the 'role' field empty. You will then be logged in to HiX with the authorisations belonging to your side job.
If you're doing a Senior Clerkship and you can't access the correct role because you have multiple roles, right-click on the window icon on the left side of your screen to switch to semi-doctor. See this item.
Changes or questions?
If an internship lasts longer than the planned period due to circumstances, this must be reported to Education & Student Affairs via a contactform on STiP so that the authorisation in HiX can also be adjusted. You can also contact Education & Student Affairs for all other HiX-related questions.
