PhD Competence Model
Erasmus MC Graduate School offers PhD education and training based on the PhD Competence Model - focusing on improving theoretical knowledge of a specific topic, or on improving certain skills that you need as an independent scientist. The PhD Competence Model is a professional development and self-assessment framework originally developed by Dutch University Medical Centers (UMCs). It helps you monitor your progress, identify training needs, and prepare for careers both inside and outside of academia.

Required courses
- Scientific Integrity (mandatory for all PhD candidates)
We advise to take this course in the 2nd year of the PhD project. If you are also pursuing a Master in Health Sciences (70EC) you are advised to join the Graduate School Scientific Integrity for PhD candidates [PHD-001] (used to be PHDCO-001) instead of the Master in Health Sciences Scientific Integrity course (LLS06). If so, you must request an exemption from the Master in Health Sciences Scientific Integrity course (LLS06), through the (Research) Master Examination Board. You can find more information about this on the General Information Page on Canvas. Scientific Integrity for PhD candidates [PHD-001] is a required course for PhD candidates. It is not possible to request an exception for this course by following the Master in Health Sciences Scientific Integrity course (LLS06).

Erasmus MC Graduate School covers the full costs of a Required License for:
- Erasmus MC PhD candidates
- Research Master students
- Research Master students re-registration (only one re-registration is covered)
New registration procedure
The NFU no longer provides license codes to institutions. This means that participants must register for the eBROK course directly through the NFU website and pay the course fee themselves. These costs can be reimbursed by Erasmus MC Graduate School, provided the steps below are followed.
To request reimbursement eligibility:
- Complete the registration form: before registering with the NFU, you must first complete this form. This allows us to verify that you belong to the eligible target group.
- Receive reimbursement instructions: after submitting the form, you will receive a document with instructions on how to declare the course costs.
Once these steps are completed, you may register and pay for the eBROK course on the NFU website. You can then submit the costs for reimbursement according to the instructions provided.
Please note: The Graduate School can only reimburse course fees if the registration form (step 1) has been completed in advance. Costs for independently made registrations without prior approval cannot be reimbursed.
