Start dates for clinical rotations:

Academic year 2026–2027:

Academic year 2027–2028:

The Research Methods block, which is offered three times per year, has no lottery or maximum capacity. You can find more information about the start options here

Lottery criteria
The rules concerning the lottery are detailed in the 'Regulations for the allocation of start dates for clinical rotations in the Master's degree programme in Medicine'.

Lottery schedule
The lottery for clinical rotations is held twice a year, usually in April and August. The regulations describe the process for each lottery in detail.

All students who meet the admission requirements listed under section 2.3, Admission Requirements 1.b., in the regulations may participate in the August lottery. The April lottery is a smaller lottery and is only open to students who meet the admission requirements listed under section 2.3, Admission Requirements 1.a. Make sure to verify in advance which lottery you qualify for by reading the regulations carefully.

A brief explanation of the lottery process is available in this video

Registering for the lottery
Approximately four weeks prior to the lottery, eligible students (see the regulations) will receive an invitation via email from Education & Student Affairs, including instructions for registration. Students who are temporarily not enrolled will receive this message at the private email address listed in Studielink. If you do not receive an invitation, please fill in a contactform for Education & Student Affairs via STiP.
Students who wish to participate in the lottery can register online for a preferred start date.
Students who meet the criteria but do not wish to participate in the lottery yet, do not need to respond to the invitation. They will receive a new invitation for the next lottery round.

Check your academic progress overview
Education & Student Affairs bases the lottery invitations on the academic progress overviews in OSIRIS. Be sure to download your academic progress overview regularly in OSIRIS Student and check for missing results.
If you are missing any achieved (final) results, report this directly to the responsible department or lecturer, who can then contact Education & Student Affairs about it.

Placement
Education & Student Affairs assigns participants to one of three categories as described in the regulations. No later than one week before the lottery, you will receive an email with your lottery category. If you believe your category is incorrect, you have three working days to respond via email. All responses will be reviewed before the lottery takes place.

August 2026 lottery

Below is the schedule for the August 2026 lottery:

Lottery process and results
The lottery takes place in OSIRIS and is processed there. Only once the entire lottery is completed will participants receive an email with the results. The placement is only final once you have received confirmation from Education & Student Affairs. Contacting Education & Student Affairs about your result before this confirmation is not helpful. After being placed, you will receive your study group and clinical rotation schedule no later than six weeks before your start date.

Exchanging or withdrawing a start date
Information and rules regarding exchanging start dates, withdrawing your start date, promotion and more can be found in the 'Regulations for the allocation of start dates for clinical rotations in the Master's degree programme in Medicine'.

Vacant places (update 29 May 2026)
During the year, vacant places may become available due to unforeseen circumstances. These will be published here along with a deadline. At the moment, there are no vacancies available. On the day ofthe deadline, Education & Student Affairs will draw lots for the vacant places and everyone will be informed by email.

Note: you can only apply for a vacant position if you meet the admission requirements for the master’s program in the meantime (because you have completed the bachelor’s or pre-master’s program). For more information, see the Regulations for the distribution of entry moments for clinical rotations in the Master’s program in Medicine.

Would you like to be informed by e-mail as soon as a vacant position is available on STiP? Then fill out a contact form via STiP to indicate this.

Information per clinical rotation
Details about each rotation can be found on Canvas. The General Practice (HAG) and Social Medicine rotations are coordinated by their respective departments. More information about General Practice can be found on Canvas and the General Practice web page. If you have any questions about this rotation, you can contact hag@erasmusmc.nl. Note: it is no longer possible to arrange the General Practice rotation independently.

If you wish to arrange your own placement for the Social Medicine rotation, contact the department via onderwijs.socialegeneeskunde@erasmusmc.nl

Standard rotation abroad
If you wish to complete a standard clinical rotation abroad, you must submit your request via Osiris Zaak no later than four months in advance. You can find the Zaak under ‘Internship’. For more information, read the OER Erasmusarts (search term: rotation series A and B). Additional information is available in the STiP item Study/internship abroad
